Central Bank of Argentina announces winners of Dr. Raúl Prebisch economic research award

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has announced the winners of the 17th Annual Economic Research Award “Dr. Raúl Prebisch.” The award aims to encourage academic research in monetary, macroeconomic, financial, and banking topics.

This year, a total of 50 works were submitted for consideration, marking the highest participation since 2021. Submissions included 27 from university students, 18 from young professionals, and five doctoral theses.

In the university student category, Juan Ignacio Domínguez from Universidad Nacional de Tucumán received first prize for his work titled “La Macroeconomía de los Controles Cambiarios.”

For young professionals, two entries shared first prize. Juan Pablo Di Iorio from Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universidad San Andrés was recognized for his study on fiscal dominance and currency composition in sovereign debt. Franco Degiuseppe from Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella was awarded for his research linking public consumption to private over-indebtedness.

In the doctoral thesis category, Emilio Colombi from University of Michigan was honored for his work on international macroeconomics.

The jury consisted of Vladimir Werning (first vice president of BCRA), Mauro Alessandro (deputy general manager of Economic Research at BCRA), Sebastián Katz (principal manager of Economic Studies at BCRA), and Laura D’Amato (professor at Centro de Estudios Macroeconómicos de Argentina and Universidad de Buenos Aires).

Awarded works will be published in the prize section and may be considered for inclusion in the bank’s academic journal “Ensayos Económicos” upon request by their authors.

According to BCRA, “The Annual Economic Research Award ‘Dr. Raúl Prebisch’ is an initiative aimed at stimulating research in areas related to promoting monetary and financial stability.”
