In November, the Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) carried out 391 maintenance operations on the National Transmission System across the country. These activities were aimed at improving the reliability and safety of electricity transmission from generation plants to end users.

The maintenance work was performed by technical staff from CELEC EP’s Transelectric business unit, in coordination with the National Electricity Operator (CENACE). According to CELEC EP, most of these tasks did not require interruptions in electricity supply, except for a few specific cases.

Among the actions taken were electrical tests, cleaning of transmission lines and primary equipment, transformer maintenance, correction of hot spots that could lead to short circuits, and emergency interventions due to external factors such as adverse weather conditions.

A total of 29 substations were serviced during this period. The substations included Babahoyo, Caraguay, Chongón, Chorrillos, Cumbaratza, Dos Cerritos, Durán, Esclusas, Esmeraldas, Loja, Machala, Manta, Milagro, Molino, Nueva Prosperina, Pascuales, Policentro, Posorja, Salitral, San Gregorio, San Idelfonso, San Rafael, Santa Elena, Santo Domingo, Sinincay,Taday , Trinitaria , Yanacocha , and Zhoray.

Additionally work was conducted on 42 transmission lines located in provinces such as El Oro; Guayas; Azuay; Cañar; Tungurahua; Pichincha; Manabí; Imbabura; Santo Domingo; Esmeraldas; Napo; Sucumbíos and Zamora Chinchipe.

“The fulfillment of maintenance plans on extra-high and high voltage networks as well as transmission substations ensures that electric energy reaches end consumers safely and reliably from generation plants to consumption centers,” stated CELEC EP.

“Maintenance work on networks and substations that make up the National Transmission System (SNT) has been fundamental for consolidating recovery of the electrical system and consequently normalizing this service which benefits all Ecuadorians,” said a representative from CELEC EP.

“In compliance with what was ordered by President Daniel Noboa… these tasks promote greater security in the process of transmitting electric energy,” noted CELEC EP regarding their November activities.

CELEC EP reiterated its commitment to national development: “CELEC EP reaffirms its commitment to the country’s development and productivity. In line with objectives set by El Nuevo Ecuador’s government and according to guidelines from Ministry of Environment and Energy…the Corporation works to strengthen reliability within SNT ensuring safe power supply for all citizens.”
