The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) has completed the annual scheduled maintenance at the Alazán Hydroelectric Power Plant ahead of schedule. The plant, which has a capacity of 6.23 megawatts and is located in Cañar province, underwent various technical interventions as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen the national electricity system.
Maintenance activities included replacing generator radiators, testing electrical system equipment, cleaning the cooling water system, inspecting internal pipes and tunnels, cleaning the substation, and conducting a 3D scan of the Pelton-type runner. These tasks were supported by technical staff from CELEC Hidroagoyán’s Turbine Repair and Recovery Center (CIRT) and formed part of a maintenance plan submitted to the National Electricity Operator (CENACE).
A team made up of technicians specializing in electrical, mechanical, civil, and electronic systems from Alazán, Mazar plants, and CIRT carried out the work.
Raúl Neira, head of the plant, stated: “The maintenance concluded two days earlier than planned thanks to the technical experience of our personnel and institutional coordination.”
CELEC EP indicated that these actions ensure continued operation at Central Alazán and support government objectives focused on efficiency, sustainability, and comprehensive maintenance of strategic power generation infrastructure.
