Bancóldex, Colombia’s business development bank, announced that in 2025 it financed the growth of more than 97,000 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and businesses in the popular economy with loans totaling approximately $4.86 trillion pesos.
According to Bancóldex, over 73,000 of these companies were microbusinesses classified within the popular economy sector. The bank reported that its credit disbursements for 2025 exceeded those of 2024 by 27%, rising from $3.81 trillion pesos in the previous year.
Direct lending and leasing operations for small and medium-sized enterprises reached $1.3 trillion pesos in 2025, representing a 30% increase compared to figures from 2024.
The institution’s loan portfolio closed at $5.9 trillion pesos at the end of 2025, up by 12% from $5.3 trillion pesos recorded at the end of the previous year. Total assets stood at $9.9 trillion pesos as of December 31, a rise of 13% compared to $8.73 trillion pesos in 2024. Net profit for Bancóldex in 2025 amounted to $63.065 billion pesos.
José Alberto Garzón, acting president of Bancóldex, stated: “The results obtained by Bancóldex are the reflection of a strategy aimed at business growth across all regions. This is demonstrated by our support in 2025 for more than 97,000 MSMEs and entrepreneurs from the popular economy. Alongside this goal, last year the bank also managed to allocate a greater volume of resources to financing sustainable development initiatives that also included support for key populations such as women entrepreneurs and indigenous peoples.”
He added: “Bancóldex has strengthened its support for exporters by disbursing $880 billion pesos in 2025 and providing currency hedges amounting to US$8.7 million.”
Of the total loans disbursed last year, $500 billion pesos were allocated to finance sustainability initiatives; out of this amount, $217 billion went specifically to diverse groups including women entrepreneurs, youth and seniors.
Aligned with sustainability goals such as Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement as well as national public policy objectives, Bancóldex channeled more than $272 billion pesos into projects benefiting around 400 companies.
In addition to financial products like certificates of deposit (CDTs) tailored for cooperatives within Colombia’s solidarity sector, Bancóldex introduced programs supporting clean energy adoption such as ‘Energía solar se reactiva’.
The bank also provided a dedicated line worth $30 billion pesos for sustainable conversion projects among micro-, small- and medium-sized mining enterprises—contributing to energy transition efforts particularly in departments like Cesar and La Guajira.
