The city of Quito hosted the III Ibero-American Final of “Solo de Ciencia,” an event that brought together science communicators from Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, and Peru. The competition concluded with Alicia Otero from Spain winning the top prize for her ability to communicate complex scientific concepts with clarity and creativity.
The event took place on November 28 at the auditorium of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture (MINEDEC) in Ecuador. According to organizers, this gathering highlighted Ecuador’s leadership in regional science communication, following victories in previous editions held in 2023 and 2024.
Officials stated that hosting the final reflects the government’s commitment to promoting science as a driver of development and a means for citizens to access knowledge. Daniela Sánchez, Undersecretary for Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer, said: “From this space, we want to reaffirm our total and permanent support for scientists, researchers and communicators. With this action, we ensure that knowledge is established as a fundamental bridge between science and society.”
The MINEDEC worked closely with higher education institutions to strengthen science outreach during this edition. Rosa Capeáns, Director of the Department of Scientific Culture and Innovation at Fecyt, said: “A thank you to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, which this year is home to the III Ibero-American Final of Solo de Ciencia 2025.”
Through this event, government representatives say they are committed to promoting human talent development and integrating Ecuador into international networks supporting science and technology.
