startuplab.01, a science and technology hub supported by Corfo and Fundación Chile, announced on Apr. 6 its second call to support new resident startups. The process is ongoing, depending on availability, and targets companies with a scientific base at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 or higher in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, agriculture and food systems, urbanization and construction, or transportation.
The hub was created to address the challenge of high costs and long timelines required to set up specialized scientific infrastructure. Founding partners include BancoEstado, BID Lab, and Codelco. Resident companies have access to 1,000 square meters of fully equipped laboratories. “The challenge was to create conditions so these technologies could be validated and reach the market more easily. startuplab.01 exists for that purpose, and the first results are already concrete,” said Francisca Contreras, Executive Director of the hub.
María Patricia Cruz Valdés from Corfo said this type of initiative has a direct impact on Chile’s standing: “Having access to laboratories, coworking spaces, a specialized team and connections with the whole ecosystem makes a difference for success. These ventures help position Chile as a reference in science-technology entrepreneurship in Latin America.” Since its launch startuplab.01 has welcomed 17 startups from Chile, Mexico and the United States working in fields such as biotechnology, advanced materials, robotics and climate technologies.
Lucas Guzmán of Bluera described his experience: “Being among the first residents allowed us to enable demonstrations for clients and authorities by presenting our technology in strategic spaces so more industries can learn about Bluera’s potential.” Applications are open internationally for startups at TRL 4 or above with dedicated teams able to work from Santiago; evaluation takes between 15–20 days.
The residency model does not require equity or intellectual property transfer from participating startups; they also gain access to international programs Hello Tomorrow—offering market validation—and Futuro Perfecto—which connects directly with the European Innovation Council offering funding up to €2.5 million without equity requirements.
The hub features two main labs—a Wet Lab focused on microbiology through analytical chemistry with controlled storage down to -80°C managed by an expert lab manager—and a Dry Lab equipped for digital fabrication through simulation plus flexible workspaces across four floors including an auditorium for up to 250 people.
