Sonoco Products Co., a diversified packaging company headquartered in South Carolina, recently expanded its fiber certification program to its plants in Brazil and Mexico.

The certification is the company’s commitment to recycling and maintaining healthy forests, as well as being responsible in managing natural resources, Sonoco Products Manager of Global Sustainable Packaging Laura Rowell said.

This certification requires that Sonoco Products takes steps to assure they are not trading or sourcing raw material that was harvested in an illegal manner, in violation of civil rights, or where a global conservation priorities that are in place could be threatened.

The company’s Brazil paper mill in Londrina and rigid paper converting operation in Araras have been certified, and its Atizapan paper mill and Mexico City rigid paper converting operation in Mexico also received certification.

Sonoco Products has 12 other paper mills and four additional converting operations that were certified in the U.S., Europe and Canada.
