The Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI) announced on April 23 a national agenda to strengthen tax culture among students across Ecuador. The initiative, which coincides with the Day of Tax Culture observed annually on April 27, includes activities in basic, middle, and higher education institutions from April 22 to April 29.
The program aims to encourage reflection on the importance of fulfilling formal duties and tax obligations while promoting responsible citizenship. As part of these efforts, SRI organized a special event at Unidad Educativa Fiscal Luis Napoleón Dillón in Quito. More than 300 second-year high school students, along with teachers and institutional authorities, participated in educational games and a knowledge contest focused on tax matters.
Alexandra Navarrete, general director of SRI, said that building a strong tax culture goes beyond paying taxes. “Cultural taxation is not limited to the payment of taxes; it is born from the formation in values such as honesty, responsibility and awareness that we are all part of the same society,” Navarrete said during the event.
Navarrete also said that fulfilling tax obligations should not be seen only as following rules but as contributing to collective well-being and helping build a fairer country. She highlighted the importance of working alongside the education system to develop citizens who are aware and committed to their nation.
With these initiatives, SRI confirms its commitment to using education as a tool for creating a more just and equitable Ecuador.
