Schools in Quito organized a civic event focused on water conservation as part of World Water Day activities, according to a March 25 announcement. The initiative, led by Unidad Educativa Fiscal Once de Febrero and replicated across several institutions in the Metropolitan District of Quito, involved both students and teachers.
The event featured an educational activity called “Recreo Azul,” designed to help participants understand the importance of water, its natural cycle, and the need to protect ecosystems that provide this resource. Organizers said the approach aimed to make learning about environmental responsibility engaging for young people.
María José Moyano, subsecretary of Education, Sport and Culture for Quito, attended the event. “Each action counts for caring for water, and it is essential that responsible awareness about its use and conservation is promoted within the educational community,” Moyano said.
Student Tiffany Fuentes also shared her perspective during the program: “Caring for water starts at home and depends on each one of us.”
Organizers say these actions encourage values such as responsibility and participation among students while motivating them to actively care for their environment. The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture said it remains committed to fostering comprehensive education that supports a conscious and responsible citizenry.
