The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, the Ecuadorian Chamber of Books, and the National Library of Ecuador Eugenio Espejo announced on Apr. 7 that the Quito International Book Fair 2026 will take place from September 30 to October 4 at the Quito Exhibition Center.
The event is seen as an important space for public and private collaboration aimed at strengthening the publishing sector and promoting reading in Ecuador. Organizers said it will run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., offering a platform for exchanging ideas, showcasing national and international literary production, and bringing together authors, publishers, and readers.
According to organizers, this edition of the fair aligns with the National Policy for Promoting Reading, Orality, and Access to Books (2024-2030). The Ministry’s role will include technical support based on its experience in public policies related to reading promotion as well as initiatives such as Ludobibliotecas and participation in international book fairs including Guadalajara, Frankfurt, Lima, and Bogotá.
The Chamber confirmed its leadership is based on compliance with the Book Law (2006) and a history dating back to its founding in 1980. Work sessions are scheduled for April 7-8 with participation from editors’ associations, booksellers, proofreaders, translators, librarians, and representatives from Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana. The aim is to form an Advisory Committee that ensures diverse programming with intercultural focus.
Key data shared by organizers indicate they expect about 45,000 visitors. Facilities will include Simón Bolívar Pavilion; Las Caras Auditorium for children’s activities; plus four auditoriums dedicated to workshops. Activities planned feature book presentations; conferences; discussions; events geared toward children and youth; as well as academic sessions involving professionals from across the sector.
Organizers say this partnership between state institutions and cultural organizations aims to deliver a technically focused fair centered on encouraging reading habits while supporting Ecuador’s cultural industry.
