Petrobras announced on Mar. 18 a new gas accumulation discovery at the Copoazu-1 exploratory well, located in Block GUA-OFF-0 in deep waters off the coast of Colombia.
The company said this discovery strengthens the region’s gas potential and adds to energy security for the area. The Copoazu-1 well is about 36 kilometers from shore, with a water depth of 964 meters, and is situated eight kilometers from the Sirius-1 and Sirius-2 wells, which are also part of the same block.
According to Petrobras, drilling at Copoazu-1 began on Nov. 11, 2025, and has proceeded safely with respect for both people and the environment. Gas-bearing intervals were identified through electric logs and fluid sampling, confirming gas presence not only in the main target but also in an additional objective. These intervals will be further analyzed in laboratory studies.
The company stated that its activities in Block GUA-OFF-0 align with its long-term strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves by exploring new frontiers and working with partners to meet global energy demand during the energy transition period.
Petrobras operates Block GUA-OFF-0 through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V – Sucursal Colombia (PIB COL), holding a 44.44% stake alongside Ecopetrol S.A., which holds a 55.56% share.
