The President of the Republic and the Council of Ministers announced on April 12 that the executive branch has taken steps to ensure order, security, and proper handling of electoral materials during the ongoing electoral process.
The announcement is significant as it addresses concerns about maintaining public order and upholding democratic procedures during elections. The statement emphasizes that the government has strictly fulfilled its constitutional mandate to safeguard internal order, secure voting locations across the country, and oversee custody of election materials.
To achieve this, authorities deployed both the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru. Resources were allocated and transferred in a timely manner to support these efforts within their areas of responsibility. The executive branch also reaffirmed its commitment to respecting the autonomy of electoral system organizations, stating that these bodies are responsible for organizing, conducting, and executing all aspects of the electoral process.
According to the statement, any issues related to polling station setup or operational matters fall under these autonomous agencies as established by Peru’s Constitution and laws. The government called for calmness, respect, and responsibility from political actors, social groups, and citizens alike.
The announcement concluded with a message highlighting unity: “We reiterate that the country needs unity, calmness and confidence in its institutions to overcome this moment.”
