The Council of Ministers announced on Apr. 12 that the Peruvian government is taking steps to address issues caused by the delayed distribution of electoral materials in parts of Lima and in Orlando, Florida, and Patterson, New Jersey.

This announcement comes after the National Jury of Elections reported problems with timely delivery of voting materials at several polling stations. The issue affected voters’ ability to participate in the electoral process.

According to the statement, “the Executive Branch reaffirms that it has fulfilled and continues to fulfill its constitutional mandate to guarantee internal order, security, and financing for the proper development of the electoral process throughout the national territory, providing logistical and operational support required by electoral authorities.” The government said it has instructed all relevant executive agencies to prioritize requests from election officials so that citizens who could not vote will have an opportunity within hours determined by those authorities.

The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Police of Peru, and Armed Forces will take necessary actions at specific polling places in San Juan de Miraflores (IE Parroquial Virgen de la Asunción; IE 6041 Alfonso Ugarte; IE 6151 San Luis Gonzaga), Lurín (IE 7078 Virgen de Chapi; IE 7098 Rodrigo Lara Bonilla; IE 7104 Ramiro Priale Priale; IE 6023 Julio C. Tello Rojas; IE 7239 Santísimo Salvador; IE 7267 Señor de los Milagros; IE 6026 Virgen de Fátima), and Pachacámac (IE 7261 Santa Rosa de Collanac; IEP El Universo de César Vallejo; IE Parroquial Virgen del Rosario).

Measures include making labor conditions more flexible for those involved as well as ensuring order and security during voting scheduled for April 13. “The Executive Branch reaffirms its commitment to strict respect for the democratic process and will continue providing all necessary support so that this takes place normally in coordination with electoral bodies,” according to the statement.
