On September 15, the Embassy of Peru in Canada, together with the Consulate General of Peru in Vancouver, recovered a significant archaeological artifact: a ceramic vessel from the Moche culture. This action is part of ongoing efforts to protect and recover cultural property.
The artifact had been in the possession of Canadian citizen Anita Wolfe. She received it during a trip to Peru in the 1980s from a healer who assisted her with natural medicine. Years later, Wolfe contacted the Embassy of Peru in Canada through the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia to return the item voluntarily.
A ceremony marking the return was held at Peru’s diplomatic mission in Canada. Dr. Nuno Porto, curator for Africa and South America at the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, also participated in the event.
