The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL) announced on March 12 that 100 citizens completed training in information and communication technologies at the Punto Digital Gratuito Ferroviaria. The event is part of a broader effort by the Government of Nuevo Ecuador to promote digital literacy across the country.
This initiative is significant as it supports the country’s ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide and provide more opportunities for employment and knowledge through technology. The Punto Digital Gratuito Ferroviaria is one of 70 operational technology centers in Pichincha province, contributing to a national network of 988 free digital access points.
During the ceremony, Víktor Águila, Subsecretary for Promotion of the Information Society and Digital Economy at MINTEL, said: “the recent launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and successful cooperation with other state institutions allow technology and social development to go hand in hand in strategic sectors of Ecuador.” Águila also highlighted the role of facilitators who guide citizens through each learning process.
With these new certifications, a total of 31,416 people have been trained in Quito’s Metropolitan District. The PDG centers have received over 11.4 million visits across all 24 provinces.
MINTEL reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the PDG project as a key driver for digital inclusion in Ecuador. The ministry said that by awarding these certificates, it continues to support technology as a bridge toward greater opportunity for Ecuadorians.
