More than one million individuals under the General Regime filed their income tax returns for the 2025 fiscal period, according to an April 21 announcement from the Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI). However, SRI said that 283,413 taxpayers have not yet fulfilled this obligation and are being urged to regularize their situation before control processes begin.
This issue matters because filing taxes on time helps avoid penalties and supports transparency in the country’s financial system. The SRI said that out of more than 1.3 million people required to submit a return, one million did so within the deadline while another 51,501 filed late.
The agency emphasized that those who still have not filed must do so immediately to avoid sanctions. Otherwise, they may be included in upcoming compliance checks. Taxpayers can check for any outstanding obligations through SRI en Línea at www.sri.gob.ec by logging in with their username and password to review their tax status and address any pending declarations.
The SRI reiterated its message about staying current with tax responsibilities: “El SRI reitera que mantenerse al día en las obligaciones tributarias evita sanciones y procesos posteriores, además fortalece la transparencia, promueve la cultura tributaria y contribuye al desarrollo del país.”
