The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, the world’s only accredited ophthalmic training aboard an aircraft, in coordination with Regional Health Management, returned to Trujillo, Peru, this week to provide training programs.
This is the fifth time Orbis Flying Eye Hospital has traveled to Peru to offer training, and its 12th time since its inception in 1982. The hospital has provided training in Lima, Arequipa, Chiclayo and Trujillo.
Alongside long-term partner Instituto Regional de Oftalmología (IRO), Orbis’ Trujillo program will continue conducting training through Oct. 16.
The program also provides continuing medical education tailored for local ophthalmologists, nurses, anesthesiologists, biomedical engineers and technicians, as well as other allied eye care professionals. Two Alcon biomedical engineers from the U.S. will volunteer their time to provide technical support and share their expertise with local technicians on managing and maintaining the ophthalmic equipment at IRO during the Trujillo program.
