Mount to Coast announced on May 1 the release of its new C1 super trainer, a high-cushioned and responsive running shoe designed for both daily mileage and speed workouts. The company, founded in 2024, has expanded its lineup from its original R1 model to include stability road shoes, hybrid shoes, technical trail shoes, and now the C1.

The introduction of the C1 is significant as it marks Mount to Coast’s entry into the increasingly popular super trainer category. These types of shoes are intended to blend comfort with performance for runners who need footwear capable of handling both long distances and faster-paced sessions.

According to Marathon Sports’ review team, “we took the C1 out for long runs on the road, speed workouts on the track, and all the daily miles in-between.” They highlighted several features including a dual-layer midsole made from CircleCell and EVA foam, a TUNEDFIT Dual Lacing System for customized fit, wide base with high sidewalls for stability, reinforced jacquard mesh upper for secure fit, and a price point of $180. The men’s version weighs 9.4 ounces with a stack height of 42 mm in the heel.

The reviewers noted that “the dual-layer midsole unit delivered exactly what we look for in an uptempo daily trainer,” citing positive experiences during various types of runs. However, they also mentioned that at 9.4 ounces it is heavier than some other super trainers available today: “In a running shoe category where shoes are striving to deliver an ultra-light… feel, the C1 has more bulk… than some competitors.” Still, they found it versatile enough as a daily trainer suitable for occasional faster workouts.

In comparison with other options such as Adidas EVO SL or Asics Superblast 3—both lighter or more expensive—the review concluded that while runners focused solely on speed may prefer different models like Adidas EVO SL or Asics Superblast 3 due to their lighter weight or proven responsiveness respectively (with prices ranging from $150–$209), those seeking durability might appreciate what Mount to Coast offers.

Marathon Sports summarized their findings by saying: “This new super trainer excels in providing balanced comfort, durability, and versatility… While it may not be the lightest and fastest shoe on the market,” they recommend trying it out especially if everyday comfort is important.
