The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture (MINEDEC) is organizing a nationwide event called “Mujeres Activas: Bailomaratón” to mark International Women’s Day. The event will take place from March 5 to 7 and aims to encourage physical activity, well-being, and women’s participation through dance sessions.
Women from various provinces are expected to gather in sports and recreational spaces for these activities. According to MINEDEC, the initiative is part of the government’s Actívate program, which seeks to increase access to sports and physical activity across the country.
The Bailomaratón will be held in 17 provinces: Morona Santiago, Zamora Chinchipe, Chimborazo, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Bolívar, Pastaza, Orellana, Napo, Esmeraldas, Imbabura, Manabí, El Oro, Guayas, Pichincha, Santa Elena and Loja. Organizers estimate that more than 3,000 women will participate.
During the event days, participants will attend guided classes in public spaces designed to promote integration and support women’s empowerment.
“With initiatives like Mujeres Activas,” said MINEDEC officials in a statement,“the MINEDEC reaffirms its commitment to creating inclusive spaces that strengthen women’s participation and promote healthy lifestyle habits throughout the country.”
