The Ministry of Public Health announced on Apr. 30 that it has continued efforts to improve access to healthcare services in the province of Imbabura by deploying medical brigades to urban areas. The initiative aims to bring comprehensive care closer to the community and strengthen preventive actions.
The first session took place at the Los Ceibos Sports Complex in Ibarra, where many families received free and timely health services. The brigade then moved to the Yahuarcocha area, expanding its reach and benefiting more residents.
According to the ministry, these interventions are part of an initial plan covering three urban neighborhoods across cantons in the province, with a goal of ensuring more accessible healthcare for local populations. Services provided included general and family medicine, dentistry, nutrition counseling, vaccinations, family planning guidance, screening tests, and health promotion activities focused on healthy habits.
In Los Ceibos alone, there were 291 consultations and activities registered. In Yahuarcocha sector near the lagoon area, another 120 people received care. A multidisciplinary team was present at each location consisting of two family doctors, one general practitioner, one dentist, one nutritionist and two nursing professionals.
A visitor named María Isabel Avendaño said she traveled from Pichincha province as a tourist and took advantage of the medical brigade’s presence at Laguna de Yahuarcocha for a family medicine consultation. “I thank the doctors for carrying out this work for the benefit of the community,” Avendaño said.
The Ministry encourages citizens to stay informed through official channels about upcoming locations where these medical brigades will operate.
