The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) presented its 2025 management results in Chimborazo, according to an April 17 announcement. The report covered achievements in road infrastructure, housing, and transportation.
The event aimed to inform the public about government actions. Gladys Velasco, subsecretary for Zone 3, said, “es importante dar a conocer a la ciudadanía todas las acciones que el Gobierno del Nuevo Ecuador realiza para generar oportunidades y fortalecer el desarrollo de toda la provincia” (it is important to let citizens know all the actions that the Government of the New Ecuador carries out to generate opportunities and strengthen development throughout the province).
Marcelo Pumagualli, district director of MIT in Chimborazo, detailed several projects from 2025. He said studies were carried out for expanding and paving the Aypud – Shushilcón road with an investment of USD 171 thousand. Maintenance was completed on the E35 Riobamba – Balbanera – Alausí – Guasuntos – Chunchi – Río Angas road at a cost of USD 1.17 million. Rehabilitation began on the Balbanera – Pallatanga – Cumandá route with an investment of USD 47.1 million. Routine maintenance work involved seven microenterprises and created jobs for seventy people.
In transportation, Pumagualli highlighted reactivation efforts for the Nariz del Diablo train route through an agreement with Alausí’s municipal government and an investment of USD 685 thousand. This project benefited seventy-five local tourism entrepreneurs. The institutional management also included issuing regular operation certificates and use-of-road fees as well as processing equipment registration documents.
For housing initiatives, sixty homes were built in Pallatanga and fifty-seven in Alausí with investments totaling around USD three million, benefiting one hundred seventeen families. Through the Creamos Patrimonio program, thirty-seven property titles were delivered to provide legal security for families in Chimborazo.
Pumagualli concluded that each project executed by MIT aims to improve quality of life and support provincial development.
