The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced on Apr. 27 that it has carried out several projects in the province of Cañar as part of its 2025 accountability report. Franklin Vázquez, district director, said that more than USD 8 million has been invested in provincial projects under the leadership of Minister Roberto Luque.
The main project involved maintenance work on the Biblián–Zhud–Angas, Zhud–Cochancay–El Triunfo, and La Troncal–Puerto Inca road sections. These works cover over 60 percent of the State Road Network in Cañar.
Vázquez also said that MIT Cañar created jobs for 29 workers through three microenterprises dedicated to road maintenance. The ministry signed an inter-institutional agreement to conduct studies aimed at improving the old Panamericana route in Azogues and Biblián cantons. As a result, more than 58 percent of the State Road Network in Cañar is now rated as being in good or excellent condition with safe pavement and signage.
In housing, the government built 39 homes benefiting 156 vulnerable people across Azogues, Biblián, and Déleg cantons. Through the Creamos Patrimonio program, ownership was legalized for 26 properties with deeds delivered to their owners.
The Ministry confirmed its commitment to continue strengthening infrastructure and social development within Cañar province through projects designed to improve connectivity, safety, and citizen well-being.
