The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has issued Resolution No. 276 of 2026, which sets out the sanitary requirements for packaged treated drinking water and ice intended for human consumption in Colombia.
The new regulation applies to all stages involved in the production and distribution chain, including manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, importation, sale, and commercialization of both packaged treated drinking water and ice for human consumption within the country. It also covers individuals and legal entities engaged in these activities as well as health authorities responsible for inspection, surveillance, and control.
According to the resolution: “Its purpose is to establish the sanitary requirements that must be met by packaged treated drinking water and ice for human consumption that are manufactured, processed, packaged, stored, transported, imported, sold or marketed in the national territory in order to guarantee their safety, protect human health and prevent possible harm.”
Establishments involved in producing or packaging these products must source their water from underground sources, surface waters or public distribution systems. The regulation specifies that this applies regardless of whether the water is in liquid, solid or gaseous form.
Furthermore: “The activities of manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, sale and commercialization of packaged treated drinking water and ice for human consumption shall adhere to the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) stipulated in Title II of Resolution 2674 of 2013 except Chapter VIII.”
These measures aim to ensure product safety and safeguard public health by requiring compliance with established standards throughout all relevant processes.
