The Ministry of Economy held a meeting to coordinate the transition of leadership in the Economy, Fisheries, and Tourism subsecretariats. The session included outgoing and incoming government officials, who discussed progress in their respective sectors and outlined challenges for maintaining investment, growth, and employment in Chile.
Álvaro García, the current Minister of Economy, Development, Tourism, and Energy, led the meeting with outgoing subsecretaries Javiera Petersen (Economy and Small Businesses), Verónica Pardo (Tourism), and Julio Salas (Fisheries and Aquaculture). Their successors—Karl Franz (Economy), Osvaldo Urrutia (Fisheries), and María Paz Lagos (Tourism)—attended along with Daniel Mas, the future ministerial head.
For more than two hours, both teams exchanged information on sectoral progress as part of an ongoing process to transfer responsibilities. Discussions covered main policies implemented so far as well as strategic challenges to strengthen economic growth, stimulate investment, and support job creation.
Minister García stated: “Economic development requires continuity, dialogue and agreements that allow us to continue promoting investment, innovation and employment. This meeting with the undersecretaries belonging to our portfolio allows us to further strengthen this institutional transition in an orderly and transparent manner.”
Daniel Mas added: “The presence of current and future undersecretaries at this meeting is a reflection of a ministerial team that is already installed and has held a series of meetings with current authorities. In multiple meetings we were able to learn more details about the status—for example—the installation of the Office for Sectoral Authorizations and Investment (OASI), as well as updates on fisheries and tourism. All with the aim of advancing what was requested by the president-elect: to promote recovery and improve Chileans’ lives.”
Javiera Petersen commented: “Coordination and institutional responsibility are fundamental in this process. We have made all technical information and programmatic advances available to ensure an organized transition that allows continuity of public policies for the benefit of the country.”
Julio Salas emphasized: “We have had a formal meeting for exchanging information with the incoming Minister of Economy and incoming undersecretaries. It was a cordial meeting; quite complete information from different subsecretariats was provided; several questions were answered; at the end we also scheduled some coordination meetings so that this transition can be as transparent as possible.”
Verónica Pardo noted: “This has been our third meeting with new Undersecretary María Paz Lagos regarding the extensive development agenda we have had in tourism which allowed us successes such as reaching 6 million tourists—a record level for our country. We have advanced by delivering a portfolio containing all achievements—and challenges ahead—with a specialized summary presented today detailing what perspective tourism policy should take so government can maintain these accomplishments.”
