Minister of Telecommunications and the Information Society, Roberto Kury, outlined on March 20 a series of initiatives aimed at improving digital connectivity and encouraging private investment in the telecommunications sector during a media tour in the province of Santa Elena.
Kury’s visit focused on informing local communities about recent progress in providing free digital access points and attracting private sector involvement. These efforts are part of a broader government policy to strengthen connectivity, reduce the digital divide, and ensure equitable access to technology, particularly in rural and historically underserved areas.
During interviews with Amor TV, Radio Amor, Genial, Playera, SER, and La Voz de la Península radio stations, Kury highlighted the inauguration of three new Free Digital Points (Puntos Digitales Gratuitos) in San Antonio, Barcelona de Manglaralto, and Manantial de Guangala. He said these centers promote digital inclusion by offering internet access and training in technological tools to support social and economic development.
Kury also discussed the role of private investment in expanding telecommunications infrastructure. He referenced Conecel S.A.’s involvement as evidence of growing confidence in the government’s approach. “In these dialogues,” Kury said, “the investment by Conecel S.A. demonstrates trust placed in the Government of Nuevo Ecuador as a key driver for expanding coverage, improving service quality, and creating more opportunities for citizens.”
The Ministry continues its commitment to advancing Ecuador’s digital transformation by bringing technology closer to more people across different regions.
