Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism and Mining, Daniel Mas, said on March 27 that regional entrepreneurship and businesses such as those in the O’Higgins region will play an important part in boosting Chile’s national economy. Mas made these remarks while attending two major events in the region: the National Rodeo Championship at Rancagua’s Medialuna Monumental and the Rengo-Valle del Cachapoal Wine Harvest Festival.
The minister emphasized that agriculture and traditions are central to Chile’s economic development. “Events like the National Rodeo Championship and the Wine Harvest contribute to the country’s economic recovery because they attract commerce and tourism, two factors that drive regional and national growth,” Mas said.
At the rodeo event, Mas highlighted how traditional activities can support local economies. “The rodeo is not only a living expression of our traditions; it is also a concrete opportunity to boost the regional economy because events of this magnitude generate productive linkages that benefit entrepreneurs and small businesses who contribute to the growth that our country needs,” he said.
Later, during his visit to inaugurate the twentieth edition of Rengo-Valle del Cachapoal’s Wine Harvest Festival, Mas met with local winemakers. He underlined wine tourism as an asset for both local communities and international outreach. “Tourism in O’Higgins is a key driver for economic reactivation locally but also nationally. Its diversity of landscapes and activities, together with wine tourism development, allows us to project a sophisticated offer with high added value capable of energizing employment and strengthening small businesses,” he said.
Mas added that wine tourism represents a comparative advantage for Chile by connecting viticulture production with culture and tourism into one experience: “This also strengthens local economies and opens new opportunities for internationalization.” Deputy Secretary of Tourism María Paz Lagos joined Mas at both events. She spoke about promoting rural traditions through regional tourism: “Strengthening regional tourism is fundamental for reactivating our country’s economy. These types of events attract visitors year-round and create concrete opportunities for regions. Our commitment as government is to continue supporting these sectors because recovering Chile’s growth also starts from its regions.”
