Marathon Sports released a review on Apr. 6 of the Brooks Glycerin Max 2, the latest iteration in Brooks’ line of max cushioned running shoes. The review examines how this new version compares to its predecessor and evaluates its performance for different types of runners.
The trend toward max cushioned shoes has been growing, with runners seeking more foam underfoot for greater comfort during long runs. Brooks entered this market in 2024 with the original Glycerin Max, featuring a high stack height and new nitrogen-infused DNA Tuned foam. The second version continues this approach, aiming to provide maximum cushioning while addressing feedback from earlier models.
According to Marathon Sports’ review team, the Glycerin Max 2 features a neutral design with a stack height of 45 mm at the heel and 39 mm at the toe, using dual-cell midsole technology that offers both plush landings and responsive toe-offs. The upper has been updated to a triple jacquard mesh construction for improved breathability and comfort without adding significant weight. “Our dedicated footwear experts tested the new Glycerin Max 2 on a variety of different types of runs across every type of terrain,” said Marathon Sports.
The shoe is described as stable due to its wide base and GlideRoll rocker geometry, which helps guide forward motion smoothly through each stride. However, reviewers noted that despite these improvements, the shoe’s increased weight—10.2 ounces for women’s sizes and 11.3 ounces for men’s—makes it less suitable for speed workouts or uptempo runs compared to lighter alternatives.
In comparison with other brands such as Nike’s Vomero Plus or Brooks’ own Ghost Max series, Marathon Sports found that while competitors may offer lighter options or lower price points, the Glycerin Max 2 stands out in terms of impact absorption and overall support during long-distance efforts.
Marathon Sports concluded that “if you’re looking for a well-cushioned, comfortable shoe to absorb impact and keep your feet happy during long mileage,” then the Glycerin Max 2 could be an appropriate choice despite its higher price point.
