The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture announced on March 9 the start of maintenance and repair work at the Bernardo Valdivieso Educational Unit. The project will benefit more than 3,600 students from morning, afternoon, and evening sections.
The initiative involves an investment of $212,000 and is scheduled to be completed in 120 days. The work will focus on restoring several areas, including the semi-Olympic swimming pool—addressing its hydrosanitary system, pool treatment, architectural works, waterproofing and roofing, painting, finishes, sanitary installations, and metal structure—as well as repainting all classroom blocks.
Geovanny Aguirre, president of the Student Council, said: “Today the commitment of the authorities to education is reaffirmed; this support is what we as students need to grow in a suitable environment. We are grateful to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture for this support, knowing that education remains and will continue to be a priority for building a fairer and better-prepared country.”
Favio Villamizar, Zonal Coordinator 7 of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture said: “With the support of the National Government, we have started the project for maintenance and repair of the school’s infrastructure—a project that represents a dream come true for students and teachers who waited years for improvements at Patrón Bernardo’s facilities and today see it become reality.”
According to officials involved in the project, these efforts reflect a commitment to recovering educational spaces by taking concrete actions that strengthen school infrastructure. The goal is to contribute to student well-being while ensuring children and young people have adequate spaces for their comprehensive development.
