Construction of the second Lodana bridge in Manabí has reached over 40 percent completion, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT). The bridge is located on the State Road Network E462B, between Portoviejo and Santa Ana. This project is part of broader efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in the province.
Work currently focuses on installing the main structure for the second bridge. Seventeen key supports have been put in place, and beam installation continues as part of building a stable and secure structure.
The overall project involves two parallel bridges, each measuring 35 meters long and 10.25 meters wide. These are designed to ensure ongoing vehicle traffic during comprehensive upgrades at the site. The first viaduct is already open provisionally, which allows traffic flow while construction proceeds on the second span.
Additional features include one-kilometer access roads and other technical elements aimed at improving road safety along this route connecting Portoviejo with Santa Ana.
The total investment for this initiative exceeds $8 million. It covers not only construction but also supervision and land acquisition costs. The work is being carried out by Consorcio Lodana in coordination with local authorities involved in reconstruction and economic recovery efforts in Manabí and Esmeraldas.
The project has directly created more than 50 jobs locally, with wider benefits expected for families throughout Manabí due to improved connectivity and economic activity.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport thus reaffirms its commitment to Manabí by carrying out works that strengthen road safety, promote territorial development, and improve citizens’ quality of life,” said officials from MIT.
