More than 200 people attended the launch of “Reconstruir sobre lo destruido,” the latest book by Jaime Alberto Cabal, president of Federación Nacional de Comerciantes (Fenalco), according to a May 6 announcement. The event took place at Ágora during the Bogotá International Book Fair and brought together business leaders, analysts, and political representatives.
The launch featured a panel discussion moderated by Andrés Mompotes with participation from congressman Daniel Briceño. Attendees discussed key themes from the book and its relevance to public debate.
The book offers a critical analysis of Colombia’s political, economic, and institutional context based on public sources and Cabal’s experience in both public service and trade associations. “I want to contribute to the debate by putting on the table the many issues in which the Government has failed us,” said Jaime Alberto Cabal.
Cabal also called for a long-term vision for Colombia that goes beyond immediate circumstances. “Colombia does not need a transitional government; it needs a collective national project for the medium and long term,” he said.
He further stressed economic growth as essential for development: “The country cannot withstand more tax burdens; the path is economic growth and private sector investment.”
Looking forward, Cabal’s work advocates strengthening institutions, security, economic stability, and respect for democracy as crucial steps for Colombia at this important moment. The book is now available in bookstores or through Fenalco’s communications office.
