Marathon Sports released a review on Apr. 15 of the Hoka Mach 7, describing it as a lightweight trainer designed for both everyday mileage and speed-focused workouts. The review highlights that while Hoka is often known for its plush, high-cushion shoes, the Mach series stands out with its lower profile and responsive midsole.

The review matters to runners looking for an all-purpose shoe that balances comfort, durability, and performance. The Mach 7 is presented as suitable for those seeking versatility in their running footwear.

According to Marathon Sports’ review team, “the heart and soul of the Hoka Mach 7 is in the bouncy and responsive midsole design.” They point out that the supercritical EVA foam provides energy return without excessive softness. The stack height remains high—37/32 mm for men’s sizes and 35/30 mm for women’s—while maintaining a low-profile feel thanks to a minimal drop of five millimeters.

The upper uses refined creel jacquard mesh, which reviewers say offers breathability with a snug fit around the foot. Small updates from previous versions include zonal breathability improvements in the upper material and new outsole materials combining sticky forefoot rubber with durabrasion rubber at the heel to enhance grip and longevity.

Reviewers note that while many features are similar to previous models, these minor changes improve durability and overall value. The price has increased by $5 compared to earlier iterations but remains competitive at $144.95.

Pros identified by testers include shock absorption on long runs, improved outsole durability, lightweight construction, secure lockdown during movement, and affordability given its versatility. However, they also mention drawbacks such as a snug fit in the upper—which may not suit wider feet—and firmer cushioning than some runners prefer.

Alternative options suggested include New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 for those wanting softer cushioning or Asics Novablast 5 for runners needing more room in the toe box along with plush support.

The conclusion encourages interested customers to try on shoes at Marathon Sports locations: “We were impressed with the Mach 7’s consistency and versatility… At Marathon Sports, we’ll use our in-depth Right Fit process to narrow down your options.”
