A health brigade from the Yunganza Health Center provided comprehensive medical care to residents of the La Playa community in Limón Indanza, Morona Santiago, according to a March 10 announcement. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to improve access to health services in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
The visit aimed to bring timely and free healthcare directly to communities that face challenges accessing medical facilities due to distance and difficult geography. The government said these actions are a priority for Vice President María José Pinto’s administration.
Before arriving, the team prepared medicines, supplies, and medical instruments needed for quality care during the outreach. A Primary Health Care Technician led educational activities focused on promoting health and preventing disease. Nursing staff administered measles vaccines and reinforced regular immunization schedules, with an emphasis on protecting children and adolescents.
To reach La Playa, the health team walked for about an hour through challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions. These efforts were designed to overcome barriers that prevent residents from traveling to health centers.
During the event, children, youth, and adults received medical attention prioritizing early diagnosis, disease prevention, and family support. Luis Chumpi, a resident of La Playa, said he was grateful for the care provided and highlighted how important it is for health services to reach their locality given transportation difficulties.
A physician from the brigade said these interventions help identify local health needs, strengthen preventive measures, and provide ongoing support for families. The Ministry of Public Health reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare and continuing work in communities so all people have timely access to services.
