The government has called on citizens to work together to address the current natural gas supply situation, urging responsible energy use and limited travel in the coming days. The measures announced are temporary and preventive, with the aim of protecting public welfare by prioritizing energy for households, essential services, and public health.

According to Denisse Miralles, President of the Council of Ministers, these actions are intended to ensure that fuel is available for homes and key industries using natural gas vehicles (NGV). “We are being responsible and preventive,” she said.

More than two million households will have prioritized access to natural gas. Essential services such as electricity generation, hospitals, food industries, and other fundamental activities will also be given priority during this period.

As part of these steps, remote work has been temporarily implemented in the public sector. Education will also move online for five days this week to reduce travel and lower fuel consumption in transportation. The government clarified that this does not mean schools are closed or that there is a return to lockdowns; it is a short-term measure aimed at reducing energy use until normal conditions resume.

Reducing movement is important because much of public transport—including Metropolitano buses and complementary corridors—relies on NGV. Prioritizing this resource helps maintain essential services.

The government also seeks to prevent price speculation and hoarding in the fuel market by promoting responsible energy use during this period.

Meanwhile, Osinergmin—the national regulator for energy investment—has conducted joint inspections at service stations across Lima with Indecopi to monitor fuel supplies. Technical teams from Osinergmin have checked major liquid fuel and LPG supply plants in Lima and Callao as part of ongoing national monitoring efforts.

Citizens can use the “Facilito” app to locate service stations and check real-time fuel prices.

Osinergmin reported that despite the emergency declaration regarding natural gas supply, service remains continuous for homes, industries, businesses, and vehicle transport in northern Peru due to existing storage infrastructure that ensures reliable supply.
