The Government of Ecuador, through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, announced on March 24 the resumption of direct flights between Quito and Mexico City operated by Aeroméxico. The airline has restarted this international route with four weekly flights using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The first flight arrived in Quito on the night of March 23, with a return to Mexico City scheduled for March 24 at 10:30.
This development is significant as it restores a strategic non-stop connection to Mexico and broadens access to destinations across North America, Europe, and Asia through an efficient network of connecting flights. Passengers now have the ability to connect from Ecuador to more than 40 destinations in Mexico, 25 in the United States, three in Canada, six in Europe, and two in Asia.
Ramón Miró, president and general director of Quiport, said: “La reactivación de esta conexión es el resultado de un trabajo coordinado entre autoridades y la industria. Apostamos por un mercado aéreo más competitivo, eficiente y con mayores opciones para los usuarios.”
Pepe Zapata, Vice President of Sales for North America and Latin America at Aeroméxico said: “La conectividad aérea es también una herramienta de posicionamiento país. Esta ruta abre nuevas oportunidades para mostrar al Ecuador como un destino atractivo, diverso y competitivo en la región.”
According to government officials, reopening this route is part of a broader strategy aimed at expanding air connectivity for Ecuador. The goal is to improve sector competitiveness while creating conditions that foster economic growth and tourism development.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport stated it will continue working with airlines, operators, and international organizations to consolidate new routes and strengthen airport infrastructure.
