The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture announced on March 19 that it is carrying out construction works at Unidad Educativa Marcabelí, benefiting 570 students in the canton of Marcabelí, El Oro province.
The project includes the construction of three classrooms measuring 9 by 9 meters each, new sanitary facilities, and the installation of playground equipment. The total investment for these improvements amounts to USD 159,265.91.
Favio Villamizar, zonal coordinator, visited the site with institutional authorities and technical staff to verify progress. “These interventions are aimed at ensuring suitable environments for learning and closing gaps in educational infrastructure,” Villamizar said during the visit. He also said that the quality of school spaces affects attendance, academic performance, and coexistence among students. For this reason, public investment is being prioritized for schools with higher demand and accumulated needs.
Amanda Gaona, rector of Unidad Educativa Marcabelí, expressed her appreciation for the intervention. “For years, our institution did not receive an investment of this magnitude,” Gaona said. She added that the new spaces will allow for better scheduling, resource optimization, and improved conditions for both students and teachers.
Members of the school community accompanied officials during the inspection and observed ongoing work. The addition of new infrastructure is expected to create a safer and more organized environment that supports student learning.
