The President of the Council of Ministers, Luis Enrique Arroyo Sánchez, announced on April 10 the launch of the “General Elections and Second Election 2026” Operations Plan. The plan will see more than 100,000 members of the National Police and Armed Forces deployed across the country to ensure peace and order during the electoral process scheduled for Sunday, April 12.
This deployment is intended to guarantee a peaceful environment so that citizens can freely participate in voting. Arroyo Sánchez said that over 61,000 police officers have been mobilized by the Interior sector, while more than 45,000 armed forces personnel and over 10,338 patrol units will be stationed nationwide to maintain order at more than 10,000 polling stations set up for election day.
Arroyo Sánchez said this historic deployment aims to secure public order and protect voting materials with neutrality and transparency. He stated that “the Government led by President José María Balcázar maintains its unwavering commitment to citizen security and democratic transition to guarantee a transparent electoral process.”
He also highlighted coordination between the executive branch and electoral bodies while respecting their autonomy. The government is providing logistical support so that elections proceed without issues.
In closing remarks directed at voters, Arroyo Sánchez said: “Citizens of Peru: conscious and informed voting is the most powerful tool to strengthen our democracy. The future of the country will be decided this Sunday and this Government is here to ensure that decision is respected in an environment of peace and order.” Several ministers as well as high-ranking officials from both police forces attended the ceremony launching this operations plan.
