The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL) certified 350 residents of La Concordia in digital tools on March 27, as part of an initiative to strengthen technological inclusion in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
This certification event brought together local authorities and community members, including children, youth, adults, transport workers, and merchants. The beneficiaries participated through the Mega Punto Digital Gratuito La Concordia and Barrio Central centers.
Pedro Barzallo, manager of the Free Digital Points program at MINTEL, said that under Minister Roberto Kury’s leadership “the PDG are strengthened every day to reduce the digital divide, bring technology closer to those who need it most and strengthen our citizens’ abilities.”
Currently, there are 32 Free Digital Points operating across the province. These centers have benefited more than 439,000 inhabitants in its two cantons and seventeen parishes. In La Concordia canton specifically, six centers have served over 51,000 people.
The event also included direct services from public institutions such as the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT) and Civil Registry. Organizers said this aligns with the Government’s vision for equitable access to technology and state services.
MINTEL stated it remains committed to expanding training spaces throughout Ecuador with a goal of reducing technological gaps and fostering a more productive society.
