The Ministry of Public Health has announced that the Hospital República del Ecuador, located on Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos archipelago, continues to provide healthcare services without interruption.
According to the ministry, “The management of Vice President María José Pinto guarantees the continuity of services. Since May 2025, the infrastructure has been undergoing a comprehensive remodeling and improvement process to offer dignified and quality spaces, through an agreement between the GAD of Santa Cruz and the Special Regime Government Council of Galápagos.”
During this period, hospital services have been reorganized. Outpatient consultations and administrative functions remain at the main hospital building. Meanwhile, critical areas such as emergency care, hospitalization, and surgery are temporarily operating from the Red Cross building in Puerto Ayora.
Officials emphasized that patient flow, service capacity, and available medical offerings are being maintained at full levels. The ministry stated: “We reiterate that patient flow, service capacity and portfolio are maintained at 100%. As evidence of this progress, on February 11th Vice President María José Pinto personally verified work progress and spoke with patients being treated in temporary facilities.”
The ministry expressed gratitude for public support during these renovations: “We thank the community of Santa Cruz for their trust while we complete work on the hospital.”
