Sociedad Rural Argentina hosted a discussion on March 27 focused on equine welfare and its role in enhancing sector competitiveness. The event featured Eugenia Fuentes from Sabiduría Ancestral Equina, an expert in equine welfare and human development, and Inés Morikawa, a veterinarian with the Argentine Association of Polo Horse Breeders who specializes in equine welfare and rehabilitation. Martín Hardoy, an expert in risk prevention and equine welfare, moderated the session.
The topic is important as it addresses ongoing challenges related to traditional management practices that need to be updated for better animal care. Both Fuentes and Morikawa said that improving management conditions is not only an ethical responsibility but also helps maximize animal performance.
The event highlighted how adopting better practices can serve as a strategic tool that supports production rather than limiting it. This approach can create new opportunities for differentiation and greater competitiveness within the industry.
The talk was part of the Triple Impact Seal for Agricultural and Forestry Production initiative led by Sociedad Rural Argentina. This program recognizes establishments implementing improvements across four areas: carbon balance measurement, animal welfare, sustainable labor practices, and climate risk management.
