The Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC) announced on March 26 that employment levels in the commerce and services sector remained stable throughout 2025, based on data from the Secretariat of Labor, Employment, and Social Security.
This stability is significant as it highlights the resilience of the commerce and services sector compared to other areas of the economy. While other sectors saw declines in their workforce, commerce and services was the only sector to experience growth in its staff numbers during 2025.
According to CAC, the average number of registered employees in this sector was 4,203,016 over the twelve months of 2025. This represents an increase of just 86 workers compared to the same period in 2024. The chamber noted that all other sectors recorded year-on-year decreases in employment.
Historically, employment within commerce and services grew steadily between 2009 and 2018. There was a decline starting from 2019 until a recovery began in 2022. Since then, employment figures have stabilized over recent years.
Looking specifically at December 2025—a month when there was a year-on-year decrease of 41,725 workers within the sector—the only activity showing relative growth was “Teaching,” which expanded by 0.6% compared to December of the previous year. In contrast, “Financial intermediation” experienced the largest reduction with a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%.
