The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture announced on Apr. 8 that it will distribute 675,000 free school uniform kits to students in public schools as part of preparations for the Costa academic year 2026-2027.
The initiative aims to support access and retention in the public education system by providing uniforms to children and adolescents from both Hispanic and intercultural bilingual educational institutions. The distribution will prioritize students from rural areas and those in vulnerable situations.
According to the ministry, each kit includes six items: three white round-neck t-shirts made of jersey fabric, two grey sweatpants, and one grey sweatshirt with institutional embroidery. The uniforms are designed with durable materials suitable for daily use at school.
For students in intercultural bilingual education programs, the kits follow the same technical specifications but include elements that respect each community’s cultural identity. This approach is intended to promote inclusion and diversity within Ecuador’s national education system.
The distribution process is being carried out progressively through zonal and district coordinations. Officials say this ensures an orderly delivery so that all students receive their uniforms before classes begin.
The ministry said these efforts are part of a broader commitment by the national government “to inclusive, free, and quality education,” aiming to create appropriate conditions for comprehensive student development across the country.
