The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture in Ecuador has delivered tactile map kits to students with visual disabilities in the Zona 6 region, which includes the provinces of Azuay, Cañar, and Morona Santiago. The official handover took place at Unidad Educativa Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón.

The initiative aims to help students with visual impairments learn about Ecuador’s geography and strengthen their sense of national identity. The tactile maps are integrated into the current national curriculum and are designed to encourage classroom interaction, teamwork, critical thinking, and skill development among all students.

A total of 96 educational institutions across elementary, middle, and high school levels will receive these kits. The program is expected to benefit 124 students with visual disabilities. Each kit contains a physical map of Ecuador, a political map of Ecuador, provincial maps for Azuay, Cañar, and Morona Santiago, as well as a poster with symbols. Kits also include a pedagogical guide aligned with the national curriculum to help teachers create collaborative learning environments that address classroom diversity.

This project is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture and the Military Geographic Institute. It is part of a broader government effort to promote equity and equal opportunities within education.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to building an inclusive and equitable education system that ensures access and meaningful learning for all students in Ecuador.
