Roberto Kury, Ecuador’s Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society, took part in the Digital Summit LATAM 2026 held in Madrid on February 26, 2026. The event brought together government officials from Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss digital transformation, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, universal connectivity, and human rights in the digital sphere.
During the summit, Kury joined Óscar López, Spain’s Minister for Digital Transformation; Carina Murcia Yela, Colombia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technologies; Alejandro Sánchez, Secretary of the Presidency of Uruguay; and Otis C. Morris, Minister of Public Safety and Public Services for Turks and Caicos Islands.
Kury emphasized Ecuador’s approach to national development through technology: “Infrastructure is today the backbone of national development. In Ecuador we have understood that integrating digital infrastructure, human talent and international cooperation is the formula to transform our country,” he said.
At the event, Kury signed a Letter of Intent with Christian Asinelli, Corporate Vice President for Strategic Programming at CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. The agreement aims to create a technical cooperation framework for designing and implementing projects that strengthen Ecuador’s digital ecosystem.
Both parties share goals such as improving digital infrastructure in Ecuador, attracting foreign direct investment, encouraging adoption of emerging technologies to enhance citizens’ quality of life, and establishing frameworks for technical cooperation on future projects.
On February 27th Kury is scheduled to participate in a roundtable titled “The Digital Future of Latin America and the Caribbean” as well as hold a bilateral meeting with Félix Fernández-Shaw from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships.
The administration led by President Daniel Noboa Azín continues its efforts to advance digital transformation in Ecuador through strategic international collaboration.
