The Ecuadorian government presented the “Estadística del Sector Eléctrico Ecuatoriano 2025” on March 31 in Quito, describing it as a key technical instrument that compiles figures and results from the country’s generation, transmission, distribution, and electric mobility sectors.
Officials say this statistical tool consolidates updated information about the performance, coverage, and evolution of Ecuador’s national electrical system. It is intended to support decision-making aimed at strengthening the value chain of the electricity sector. The data also contributes to annual planning and policy formulation within the energy field.
Javier Medina, Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, said that publishing this document reaffirms the government’s commitment to transparency, access to information, and institutional strengthening. “Thanks to this statistical system, today we have a complete radiography of the sector: of generation, transmission and distribution; interconnections; electric mobility; and each indicator that defines the present and future energy landscape of our country,” Medina said.
The report was produced with financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank. Among its findings are that more than 5.8 million consumers now use electricity services nationwide—reflecting growing access in both urban and rural areas—and service coverage has reached approximately 97.81 percent. The country’s power generation remains predominantly renewable with an annual total production of 38,212 gigawatt-hours.
The document also includes territorial analyses supported by tools such as the Electric Atlas for visualizing infrastructure distribution as well as transmission networks. These resources are designed to strengthen strategic planning for Ecuador’s electricity sector while helping identify priority zones for investment or expansion.
