The Ministry of Environment and Energy announced on April 16 that it has delivered field uniforms to 206 park rangers and technicians working in Ecuador’s 18 protected marine coastal areas. The purchase was made through the Support Project for the National System of Protected Areas Phase II, funded by German Cooperation via the development bank KfW.
The delivery aims to improve working conditions for personnel operating in dynamic and vulnerable ecosystems. The ministry said this initiative is intended to provide specialized equipment adapted to complex climate and logistical challenges faced by staff in these regions.
Alicia Jaramillo, Vice Minister of Environment and Marine Coastal Affairs, said, “With an investment exceeding $99,000, this equipment will allow our park rangers and technicians to perform their duties with greater safety and efficiency. It also strengthens institutional image and consolidates relationships with communities and local stakeholders, promoting participatory management in the territory.”
According to the ministry, providing appropriate equipment is fundamental for implementing control actions, monitoring activities, public use management, and environmental education as outlined in area management plans. The new uniforms are seen as a key component for strengthening operational capacity among field staff.
The national government reiterated its commitment to supporting Ecuador’s National System of Protected Areas. Officials recognized the strategic role that park rangers play not only in protecting natural heritage but also in fostering sustainable development and community well-being connected with protected areas.
