The government of President Daniel Noboa announced on March 27 the delivery of two new health centers in Chunchi, Chimborazo province, with an investment of USD 859,340. The new Compud and Joyagshi Type A Health Centers are intended to strengthen primary care services for local families.
This initiative aims to improve the public health system and aligns with Vice President María José Pinto’s focus on providing equitable and timely access to healthcare for communities. The inauguration event took place outside the Joyagshi Health Center and was attended by about 200 people. The Joyagshi center received USD 378,833 in funding, while the Compud center was allocated USD 477,507. Together, these facilities are expected to benefit around 1,655 residents.
María Cecilia Vargas, Undersecretary of Operations and Logistics Management in Health, said: “The National Government prioritizes the intervention of health establishments nationwide, benefiting all 18 million Ecuadorians.” She also said that improvements at both centers mean more people can receive timely healthcare closer to home without long journeys to hospitals.
José Antonio Orellana, president of the Local Health Committee Joyagshi, thanked President Noboa for the project. “From today we have a space that will not only heal bodies but also strengthen our hope. Let us continue forward as a united community in health and well-being,” he said.
Both centers have been upgraded with safe infrastructure including general medicine and dental consulting rooms as well as immunization areas and sample collection points. They feature modern climate control systems along with biosecurity measures and universal accessibility features.
Officials say these improvements will help reduce pressure on higher-level hospitals by decreasing wait times and improving key public health indicators such as vaccination coverage and prenatal care monitoring. “On behalf of the National Government I want to thank all staff who worked tirelessly,” Vargas said at the event.
