Colombia’s cruise industry is experiencing significant growth, generating approximately USD $50 million annually and reporting a more than 20% increase in passenger arrivals for the 2025–2026 season, according to an April 14 announcement. The country aims to strengthen its position as a strategic stop on Caribbean itineraries, with the United States accounting for over 60% of visitors.
The expansion of Colombia’s cruise sector is important because it supports local economies and reinforces tourism growth. Major global cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, AIDA Cruises, TUI Cruises, Holland America Line, National Geographic Expeditions, and Princess Cruises have expanded their presence in Colombia. Additionally, AmaWaterways recently marked one year since launching the first luxury river cruise along the Magdalena River.
Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia—the country’s promotion agency—said: “Colombia offers a cruise portfolio as diverse as its regions. From major Caribbean routes to boutique expeditions and river journeys, the country caters to experience-driven travelers with high spending capacity. Between 2023 and 2025, more than 60% of cruise passengers were aged 60 and above, reflecting a market that values depth, comfort, and meaningful experiences.”
Caballero also said: “This growth is supported by a strong ecosystem of partners… Together they ensure operational excellence, personalized experiences, and high-quality service across Colombia’s key cruise destinations.”
Sustainability efforts are central at Colombian ports. In Cartagena—a major hub—Port Oasis integrates into a wildlife conservation center that provides refuge for animals rescued from illegal trafficking. The port was recognized with the GRI Infra Awards Andean 2024 for its sustainable approach. In Santa Marta port operations combine efficiency with environmental responsibility while offering access to unique natural attractions like the Sierra Nevada mountain meeting the Caribbean Sea.
At this year’s Seatrade Cruise Global event in Miami on April 13th–14th attendees can sample ¡Dios Mío! Coffee by Sofía Vergara—a brand sourced exclusively from women-led farms promoting financial empowerment within Colombia’s coffee sector. “If there’s one thing I love in life is a good cup of Colombian coffee… each sip is a hug from Colombia in your hands,” said Sofía Vergara.
As Colombia seeks continued momentum within global cruising markets Caballero concluded: “tourism is not only about visiting destinations but also about protecting biodiversity empowering communities celebrating culture and delivering experiences that leave a lasting impact.”
