Chile was named Best International Destination in the first edition of the Forbes Travel Awards, according to a March 18 announcement by the editorial committee of Forbes Travel. The award places Chile among leading global tourism destinations and recognizes its approach to tourism as a tool for prosperity, inclusion, and future development.

The recognition is significant as it highlights Chile’s position over other nominees such as Portugal’s Alentejo region and Japan. The Forbes Travel Awards were launched in 2026 to honor influential actors in global tourism, making this initial win strategically important for Chile’s international profile.

The award is expected to strengthen Chile’s image in key markets—especially Europe—and boost confidence among travelers and investors in the country’s diverse and sustainable tourism offerings.

Chile’s recent accolades also include features in the December 2025 issue of Forbes magazine and strong performances at the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2026. Santiago ranked fourth globally for solo travel and twelfth among top South American destinations; San Pedro de Atacama placed fifteenth regionally for its unique landscapes and nature-based experiences. Additionally, TIME magazine included Estancia Mercedes (Magallanes), Pared Sur Camp (Aysén), and Ephedra Restaurant (Antofagasta) on its World’s Greatest Places 2026 list.

These recognitions reflect growing international appreciation for Chile’s blend of natural diversity and innovative tourism experiences. As more travelers seek unique destinations with strong local identity and sustainability credentials, industry observers will be watching how Chile builds on this momentum.
