The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) announced on March 15 that it will carry out scheduled work at the Santa Elena II Thermal Power Plant on Monday, March 16. The aim is to energize and put into operation a 10 megavolt-ampere (MVA) transformer. This technical work will result in a partial restriction of electricity service between midnight and 4:00 a.m. in some areas of the Santa Elena province.
The installation of this equipment is expected to add about seven megawatts (MW) to the province’s electrical system. CELEC EP said this measure will help reduce supply restrictions caused by an irreversible failure in the ATQ autotransformer of 138/69 kilovolts (kV), which occurred on February 28.
The company stated that these efforts are being coordinated with the National Electricity Operator (CENACE) as part of ongoing steps to gradually restore normal service.
CELEC EP thanked residents for their understanding regarding any inconvenience during the work and advised them to stay informed through official channels.
The addition of new capacity is seen as an important step toward stabilizing electricity supply in Santa Elena following recent disruptions.
