The Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC) announced on March 16 that it will integrate its certificate of origin system with Covantis, a digital platform designed to streamline document management in foreign trade. The announcement was made at the CAC auditorium by the Department of Visations, with representatives from companies involved in developing the tool present.
Covantis is a digital platform used in international agricultural commodities trade. It aims to modernize and make more efficient the logistical and operational processes between companies in the sector. The platform allows for digital management of post-trade stages such as document exchange and shipment coordination, which have traditionally relied on emails, spreadsheets, or paper-based procedures.
With this integration, managing certificates of origin will become part of the operational workflow for companies using Covantis. Information required to issue certificates will be sent automatically from Covantis to CAC systems, which will then return securely issued documents in a structured format. This interoperability is expected to enable automatic data entry, eliminate duplication, reduce manual errors, and decrease administrative time and costs associated with document management.
Gonzalo de León, institutional director at CAC, opened the event by saying: “As an umbrella organization we have a deep interest in today’s topic. We are especially interested in ensuring that commerce—and particularly foreign trade—continues to develop because promoting international exchange is fundamental for our country. We know Argentina still has progress to make regarding global integration, so any initiative that helps facilitate foreign trade is valuable. That’s why we consider this development very important and hope you find the tool useful.”
Fernanda Roelas, head of the Department of Visations at CAC, said: “From CAC we reaffirm our historic vocation for service towards exporting companies. We understand that our role is not limited to issuing certificates of origin but involves accompanying their process evolution, adapting to their management dynamics and offering solutions that naturally integrate into their daily operations.” She added that they see “the digitalization of foreign trade as a concrete tool for competitiveness” throughout all institutional work at her department.
Roelas concluded: “Today traceability, document security and reduction of operating costs are no longer differentiating advantages but necessary conditions for competition. In this scenario, from CAC we assume a clear commitment: transform our services so they support and enhance Argentine exporters’ operations by simplifying processes, reducing timescales, minimizing risks and generating real efficiency in daily management while focusing on service quality.”
The agenda also included presentations from Petya Sechanova (CEO), Fernando Ramos (Business Development Manager for South America), and Augusto Waltrick (Customer Experience Specialist) from Covantis. They explained key features of the platform and opportunities it offers sector companies. Romina Sacco from Bunge shared her company’s experience implementing Covantis.
